Patient Problem (PPR) messages are primarily processed by the Clinical Data Repository (CDR). Listed below are the PPR message types that are processed.

Add problemIf the problem does not exist, add it. If the problem exists, update it.
PC2Update problemIf the problem exists, update it. If the problem does not exist, add it.
PC3Delete problemIf the problem exists, delete it. If the problem does not exist, add it and then delete it. This updates the record status to INACTIVE.

Unique Identifier for Patient Problems

Problem entries are identified using a combination of the following fields:

  • MSH.4.2 Sending Facility Universal ID
  • PRB.4.1 Problem Instance ID Entity Identifier
  • PRB.4.3 Problem Instance ID Universal ID
